For travelers crossing between France and Switzerland, the TGV Lyria offers one of the smoothest ways to do it. This high-speed, double-decker train covers the roughly 600 kilometers between Paris and Zurich in just over four hours, reaching speeds up to 320 km/h while passing through some of the most scenic countryside in either country. Here's a closer look at what makes the journey comfortable, and what's worth seeing along the way.

## Comfort and Amenities Onboard

TGV Lyria trains offer three classes of service, each designed for a different kind of traveler.

**Standard** is the most budget-friendly option, with 2nd class seating in a 2+2 configuration, free Wi-Fi, a power outlet at every seat, and access to the onboard buffet car. Passengers can also order from the "Le Deli" menu for food delivered straight to their seat.

**Première** steps things up with 1st class seating in a roomier 1+2 layout, more legroom, and access to the SNCF Salon Grand Voyageur lounge at Paris Gare de Lyon before departure. Wi-Fi and power outlets carry over from Standard, along with a generous luggage allowance of two items per person.

**Première Signature** is the top tier, built for travelers who want a more personalized experience. It includes a dedicated welcome, a hot meal and drinks served at the seat from a menu crafted by chef Michel Roth, and flexible ticket options.

Across every class, seats are adjustable and paired with fold-down tables, and large windows throughout the train make it easy to take in the view. Luggage storage is generous, with no strict weight limits, and even bagged bikes, skis, or folded strollers are welcome onboard. Because France and Switzerland are both part of the Schengen Area, there's no border checkpoint to slow things down, just a seamless ride from one country to the next.

## The Route: Stops and Tourism Opportunities

Rather than flying over the countryside, TGV Lyria travelers get to move through it, with several stops along the way that double as worthwhile destinations in their own right.

**Paris.** The journey begins at Gare de Lyon, one of the city's grand 19th-century stations. For travelers with time before departure, Paris needs little introduction: the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and the café culture of the Left Bank are all within easy reach.

**Dijon.** A regional capital known for its food and wine culture, Dijon sits at the edge of Burgundy's famous vineyards. Its walkable city center, easily explored by tram, is home to well-preserved medieval and Renaissance architecture alongside a lively culinary scene.

**Belfort-Montbéliard TGV.** This stop serves the Franche-Comté region, a gateway to the Vosges mountains and a quieter, more rural stretch of eastern France.

**Mulhouse.** Close to the German and Swiss borders, Mulhouse blends French, German, and Swiss influences. It's known for its museums, including one of the largest automobile museums in the world.

**Basel.** Straddling the point where France, Germany, and Switzerland meet, Basel offers a mix of medieval old town charm and modern architecture. The city has a strong arts scene, with world-class museums and a lively live-music calendar.

**Zurich.** The final stop is Switzerland's largest city and a cultural hub in its own right, recognized as the birthplace of the Dada art movement. Zurich's pedestrian-friendly old town, lakeside promenades, and mix of historic and contemporary architecture make it a rewarding place to linger before or after the train ride.

## Why It Works for Clients

For travel advisors building itineraries that span France and Switzerland, TGV Lyria offers a practical advantage: a single, comfortable journey that turns transit time into part of the trip itself. No airport transfers, no long security lines, and no lost time staring at gate monitors. Just a scenic, city-center-to-city-center ride with the flexibility to stop and explore along the way.
