5 Places in Central America with that WOW Factor

Written by Gina Bang | Oct 5, 2017 7:00:00 AM

The countries that comprise Central America offer a variety of options for independent travelers. We love going south to explore the natural playgrounds in the mountains, rainforests and beaches, as well as getting our fix of good food, friendly people, and a little adrenaline rush. Over time, there are a few places that are real knock-out experiences:

Tikal, Guatemala

An incredible site set in the middle of a jungle. Here, your guide will explain the history of the region and the people that built this incredible complex of temples. Your questions of what happened to such an advanced society will remain unanswered – a different kind of souvenir.

Tortuguero, Costa Rica

Explore the vast network of canals by boat as your guide points out different types of birds, monkeys, frogs, plants, trees, and anything that might cross your path. Stay in an eco-lodge and hear the sounds of the jungle out your screened window. A truly unique experience!

Little Corn Island, Nicaragua

On the Caribbean side of the country, Little Corn Island is a relatively undiscovered oasis. Here you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters by boat and by snorkel. This is barefoot luxury at its finest!

Ambergris Caye, Belize

Just a quick flight from the International Airport in Belize City, you’ll arrive San Pedro town. Take an excursion out to the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, for amazing encounters with fish, rays, turtles, and even a nurse shark.

San Blas Islands, Panama

Immerse yourself in the traditions and culture of the self-governing Kuna Indians in the San Blas Islands Archipelago. Visit a Kuna village and learn the meanings behind their Molas, a native art.
